Ranks: from D to S
Every piece of gear that drops has a rank: a letter that says how good it is. You see it in the corner of the item, in your backpack, in your equipment and in every window.
| Rank | Rarity | Border color | What it brings |
|---|---|---|---|
| D | Common | Gray | Plain base. 0 or 1 attribute. |
| C | Magic | Green | A bit better. 2 attributes. |
| B | Rare | Blue | 3 attributes. |
| A | Epic | Purple | 4 attributes and a minor passive. |
| S | Legendary | Orange | 4 attributes and a major passive. The best rank. |
Attributes are random bonuses (crit, life steal, attack speed, resistances…) that add to your stats. Set pieces show as rank A with a green border and give an extra bonus when you gather 2 or 4 of the same collection.
How does loot drop? The game builds it for you: it picks a piece for your vocation and attributes that suit your subclass. A Guardian will almost never see crit; a Sorcerer, almost always magic crit.
Rank S is hard on purpose. It only drops from monsters of level 35 or higher, and it is likelier against orange or red monsters (see Combat). When something good drops the game tells you: from rank C you see a notice above the map, and ranks A, S and sets make a beam of light and an announcement to the whole server.
Tiers: the item level
Besides rank, every item has a tier, which depends on your level. There are six and each is stronger than the last.
| Tier | Name | Levels |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Initiate | 8-19 |
| 2 | Adventurer | 20-34 |
| 3 | Veteran | 35-49 |
| 4 | Elite | 50-64 |
| 5 | Master | 65-79 |
| 6 | Living legend | 80-100 |
Tier and rank multiply. That is why an S item of one tier beats a D of the next tier: a level 30 S sword hits harder than a level 50 D sword. An item more than one tier above yours never drops.
Where to get items: from monster loot, from the dungeon chest (see Dungeons), from quests and from shops (which only sell rank D, with no attributes).
Inspecting an item with Shift
You can look at any item without clicking: put the mouse over it and hold Shift. A panel with all the detail appears. It closes when you release Shift. The panel shows:
- The name in its rarity color and the rank letter.
- If it is part of a set, how many pieces you have.
- The tier, attack, defense and armor. On weapons you also see the damage per hit and the approximate damage per second, worked out with your own character (your level, skills, crits and attack speed).
- The attributes and the passive, if any.
- The level and vocation requirement, in red if you do not meet it yet.
- If you drop in level (for example when you die) your items do not switch off at once: for each level you lack they work 10% worse in attributes and damage (1 level short = 90%, 5 short = 50%) and only 6 or more levels below do they switch off. The detail (Shift) and “You see” tell you your level, how well it works and from which level you can use it.
- Whether the item is unsecured, and its sell price.
- A comparison with what you wear: a green (better) or red (worse) arrow with the difference in each stat.
Tip: before equipping something new, check with Shift that it is really better than what you wear.
It works on equipment, backpacks, the floor, the Ark, the action bar and shops. You can also inspect another player: right-click them and choose “Inspect” (you see what they wear, not their backpack). Details: Item and player inspection (in Spanish).
Durability: gear wears down
In Rift Delve you do not lose your gear when you die (except with a red or black skull), but it wears down.
- Every equipped piece has a durability from 0 to 100 (new ones are at 100).
- It only wears when you die, not by using it. If a monster kills you it loses 10 points; if a player kills you, 20; if a skulled killer kills you, 35.
- When it reaches 0 the piece is damaged: it stays equipped but does nothing (no stats or attributes) until you repair it. You see a red X on the slot and the word “DAMAGED” when you look at it.
This is a deliberate gold sink: the better the item and the higher your level, the more it costs to repair.
The blacksmith: repairing gear
| Blacksmith | City |
|---|---|
| Herrera Inés Yunque | Ashport (next to the armory) |
| Herrero Bodvar | Ironhold (in his workshop) |
- Click the blacksmith.
- Choose “Repair equipment”.
- You see the list of your worn items with the cost of each one and a “Repair all” button.
The price grows with tier and rank. You can also use the anvil next to the blacksmith, or type
!repararnearby. The cost table has the numbers (in Spanish).
Selling
There are two ways to sell:
- Creature products, gems and jewelry (hides, horns, teeth…): you sell them to the appraisers and furriers. Click the NPC and choose “Trade”. Some: Mirella la Tasadora (Ashport) and Custodia Brenna (Ironhold).
- Ranked gear (D to S): sold with the
!vendercommand, in the temple, at the depot or next to a merchant (see PvP and death). The price depends on tier and rank: an S item is worth 20 times the tier’s base gold; a set piece, 10 times. For epic items or better the game asks you to confirm.
Careful: what you find inside a dungeon or the Rift stays unsecured until you leave through the portal. If you die before that, you lose it. The prizes you pick from the final chest always arrive secured.
