On this page: how to fight, what a monster’s level and color mean, elites, critical hits and the status bar.

The basics of fighting

  1. Click on a monster (or on its name in the Battle list, key X). Your character attacks it by itself with its weapon. Your weapon hit lands every 2 seconds.
  2. Use your abilities from the action bar (keys 1 to 0, - and =). Each has its own cooldown (how long until it is ready again) and mana cost.
  3. Watch your health and mana. Potions, runes and ammunition are bought in shops (see Economy). Out of combat you recover by yourself, and eating helps.
  4. To stop attacking or following someone, press Esc.

Tab to pick a target. Press Tab to attack the nearest monster on screen; each Tab moves to the next one and Shift+Tab goes back. Other players are only picked when they can be attacked (never from a protection zone, never your party, and players without a skull only with secure mode off).

How you see your target. Your target has a thin red ring on the ground under its feet and a small red arrow above its name; if you follow someone, the ring is green. Whoever just hit you is marked in the Battle list with a small orange bar on the left. You can change the style in Options > Graphics > Combat marks (ring, arrow, thin corners or the classic square).

Each vocation has its own style, and the game gives you a tip in your first fight:

VocationThe game’s tip
WarriorStand in front so they hit you. Use your strong hit when several enemies are on you and drink before half health.
ArcherDo not let them touch you: step back, shoot, step back again. Check your ammo before going down.
MageYour mana is your life. Cast from afar, let them come to you and save mana to run.
ShamanYou heal, but you also bite. Heal before you need it, not after.

Tip: at the start, other players cannot attack you until level 24. Use that time to learn to fight.

Monster level and color

Every monster has a level that you see in brackets next to its name (for example, Dragon [48]), and the color of that number tells you at a glance whether the fight is easy or dangerous for your level.

Number colorThe monster is…What it means for you
Gray10 or more levels below youVery easy. Poor loot: only ranks D and C, at half the chance.
Green5 to 9 levels belowEasy. Slightly lower loot.
YellowClose to your level (-4 to +4)The “normal” fight for your level.
Orange5 to 9 levels aboveHard. Better chance of good loot.
Red10 or more levels aboveVery dangerous. The best loot, if you manage it.

Two tips:

  • Color rules the loot. Against grays and greens almost nothing good drops; against oranges and reds there is a better chance of high ranks (B, A and even S). More in Ranks D-C-B-A-S (in Spanish).
  • Ask the game. Type !nivel dragon in the chat and it tells you the monster’s level and its color against yours.

In the works: some human monsters (like the Warlock or the Black Knight) do not show their level next to the name yet. It is being completed.

The level of every monster: Monster levels and hunting zones by level: Hunts (in Spanish).

Elites

Elites are special monsters: stronger than the common ones and with a better reward. Today you find them inside dungeons, on every floor.

  • They have 1 to 3 stars: more stars means more health, more damage and a better reward.
  • Each elite has a role: Fighter (hits hard), Tank (very tough), Caster (attacks from afar) or Assassin (lots of damage, little health).
  • They can carry an affix that changes the fight: Explosive (explodes on death, with a warning), Summoner (calls helpers), Shielded (a shield you have to break), Fast or Vampiric (heals with its damage).
  • They give more Essence and may drop better loot.

In the works: elites in the open world too (with a bit more health and damage than common monsters).

All the data: Dungeons (in Spanish).

Critical hits

A critical hit is a hit that lands harder than normal. It happens at random: your base chance is 5% and a base crit hits +50%. Physical crits (weapons and arrows) and magic crits (spells) are rolled separately, and you improve them with the talent tree and gear.

When you land a crit you see it clearly:

  • The red word “CRIT!” pops over the monster.
  • A big number with ”!” appears above its head: gold for a physical crit and orange for a magic crit.
  • If another player crits you, you see the number in red. The number is only visible to you and to whoever receives the hit. If it bothers you, turn it off in Options > Interface > Combat.

The status bar

Under your portrait (top left) there is a row of small icons that tell you what is happening to you: whether you are poisoned, whether you have a shield, whether you run faster, whether a passive is on cooldown. It is similar to the indicators in League of Legends. The icon border tells you its type:

BorderTypeExamples
GreenBuffProtector, Blood Frenzy, Fast, Mana shield
RedDebuffPoisoned, Burning, Immobilized, Slowed, Cursed
GoldPassiveTree and legendary passives, with their cooldown
VioletShieldIron Bulwark, Aegis, Life Barrier (shows what is left of the shield)
  • Hover an icon: it tells you what it is, how long it lasts or how long until it comes back, and where it comes from (an item, a spell, a monster or an ally).
  • A buff darkens as it runs out; a cooldown brightens as it returns.
  • The number at the bottom right is the charges or what is left of a shield.
  • The command !estados gives you a summary in the chat.
